1. Grades K-6 uses the Abeka Curriculum for all core subjects. Core subjects include Math, Social Studies, Science, and English/Language Arts (grammar, reading, writing, spelling/vocabulary).

2. Grades K-6 use varied curricula for other subjects, including Bible, P.E., Art, and Music.

3. Grades 7-12 uses BJU Press Curriculum for English and Math.

4. Grades 7-12 uses Apologia Curriculum for Science.

5. Grades 7-12 uses varied curricula for other classes, including Social Studies, Bible, Spanish, and Electives.

1. Grades K-6 – If a student does not complete his/her assignments for the day, he/she should expect to complete the work at home. Any incomplete assignments will receive discipline and the grade may be lowered.

2. Grades 7-12 – Students must complete their daily assignments to be prepared and successful academically. Atmore Christian School’s assignments policy for grades 7-12 is as follows.

a) First incomplete in a quarter

(1) Student will be given a warning, but no disciplinary actions will be taken.

(2) The student may hand in the assignment next time the class meets for ¾ credit.

(3) After that the assignment will receive no credit (unless there are clearly extenuating circumstances).

b) Second incomplete in a quarter

(1) The student will be given another warning.

(2) The student may hand in the assignment next time the class meets for ½ credit.

(3) After that the assignment will receive no credit (unless there are clearly extenuating circumstances).

c) Third incomplete in a quarter

(1) The student will be assigned a detention and the parents will be contacted.

(2) The student may hand in the assignment next time the class meets for ¼ credit.

(3) After that the assignment will receive no credit (unless there are clearly extenuating circumstances).

d) Fourth incomplete in a quarter –

(1) The student will be assigned another detention and a meeting will be scheduled between the parents and Administrator. The teacher may join this meeting.

(2) The student may not hand in the assignment late for any credit.

The grading scale for 1st-12th grades is: 90-100% = A, 80-89% = B, 70-79% = C, 60-69% = D.

Students can make the honor roll by meeting the following criterion:

1. Elementary

a) “A Honor Roll” and “B Honor Roll” - Qualification is based on the cumulative yearly grade average of all subjects combined rather than on each subject individually.

(1) However, earning a cumulative yearly average of D (60-69.99%) or F (<60%) in any individual subject automatically disqualifies a student from the Honor Rolls.

(2) For example, a student can earn a yearly cumulative average of B (80-89.99%) for one subject and qualify for the “A Honor Roll” if his/her cumulative yearly grade average for all subjects combined is A ( > 90%). Or a student could earn a cumulative yearly average of C (70-79.99%) in one subject and qualify for the B Honor Roll if his/her cumulative yearly grade average for all subjects combined is > 80%.

2. Junior/Senior High a) “All A Honor Roll” and “All A-B Honor Roll” - Qualification is based on cumulative yearly grade average of each subject individually (i.e., not all subjects combined).

(1) Earning a cumulative yearly average of C or lower (< 80%) for any individual subject would disqualify a student from both Honor Rolls.

(2) Earning a cumulative yearly average of B (80-89.99%) for one or more subjects while having no subjects with a yearly average of C or lower (< 80%) qualifies a student for the “All A-B Honor Roll”.

(3) Earning a cumulative yearly average of A (90% and above) for every subject qualifies a student for the “All A Honor Roll”.

Each year students in grades 2-12 take the Iowa Standardized Achievement Tests. These are sent to be scored by the testing company and results are kept in the student’s permanent record.

Scripture memory is vital to the formation of knowledgeable and faithful disciples of Christ. Scripture memory will be recurring on a weekly or bi-weekly basis throughout the year. Scripture memory verses will vary based on the student’s grade level. Scripture memory counts for 25% of the student’s grade in Bible class. 1. A student will qualify for the end of year Scripture Memory Award if he/she has:

a) Recited every Scripture Memory verse assigned during the school year.

b) Completed all Scripture memory assignments on time, by no later than their due dates (unless there are extenuating circumstances like an “excused” absence, in which case the assignment must be completed promptly when the student returns).

c) Earned a passing grade (60% or higher) on all assigned Scripture memory verses.

Students and staff assemble for K-6th grade chapel and 7th-12th grade chapel each Wednesday. K-6th grade chapel is from 11:30-12:00. 7th-12th grade is from 12:00-12:30.

Each family will be able to track their child’s academic progress, behavior and attendance via the Quick Schools website. A password will be emailed to parents so they can access this information.

Report Cards may be picked up by parents (not students) in the school office. One copy will be signed and kept by the school and the other is for parents to keep.

After the first and third quarter, conferences will be held so that teachers and parents may communicate in a formal setting.

1. Elementary teacher conferences are required and will be scheduled by the secretary.

a) Parental attendance is expected at teacher conferences unless there are clearly mitigating circumstances, in which case we ask parents to let the secretary or teacher know in advance so that the conference may be rescheduled.

2. Junior and High School teacher conferences are not mandatory. However,....

a) We strongly urge all parents to come meet with their Jr/Sr High student’s teachers to discuss any concerns and progress updates for their student, especially in the core subject areas (English, Science, Math, Social Studies) and Bible.

b) Attendance is mandatory in cases where a teacher contacts the parent and asks to meet. Junior/Senior High teachers will not contact parents for a meeting unless they believe a meeting is warranted due to academic and/or behavioral concerns. In such cases, we expect parents to honor the teacher’s request to meet.

During the course of the year classrooms will go on field trips. A permission slip will be sent home and must be signed and returned before the child will be permitted to go on the trip. Parents may be asked to go along to help drive and/or serve as chaperones. These are required school day activities
